Horspath 2nd triumph to fire up title charge

15 Aug 2022

HORSPATH 2nd took a huge step towards the Cherwell League Division 2 title with an emphatic 92-run victory at nearest challengers Buckingham Town in their top-of-the-table clash.
The resounding win sees the side increase their lead at the top to a commanding 25 points with three games to go.
Choosing to bat, Horspath posted 240-8 off their 50 overs with good contributions from Stephen Green (49, pictured), Tom Betts (43) and Mark Skelton (41) as George Humphries picked up 3-42.
Subhan Javaid was taken ill after bowling four overs at the beginning of Buckingham's innings and had to leave the field as openers Matthew Thatcher (25) and skipper Alex O'Dell (22) got the home side off to a solid start.
But once they were parted Horspath's attack worked their way through the rest of the order.
Skelton took 3-16, including the wicket of top-scorer Brian Joseph (51), while there also useful spells from Josh Richardson (2-25), Tyrone Eyles (2-34) and Justin Clarke (2-38).
Horspath seek to strengthen their grip at the top when they entertain fourth-placed Brackley next Saturday.
