Hatfield & Crusaders v Northwood Town Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 30 Jul 2022 at 12pm
Northwood Town Cricket Club Won by 118 runs

Match report Town travelled to Hatfield & Crusaders (H&C) in a must win game to keep their promotion hopes alive. Winning the toss H&C chose to bowl first.

Madhavan & Aggarwal opening the batting it was business as usual. Runs started to flow and both looked in great touch. They made sure H&C bowlers did not settle in any rhythm. Town passed 100 in 19 overs without losing any wicket. But Madhavan departed for 49 an inning which deserved at least a half century. He played shots all around the ground showing how strong he is both side of the pitch. Meanwhile Town’s run machine Aggarwal at the other end passed another 50 for the season. We are running out of words to describe how well he is batting this season. Modi joined him and started to build a good partnership which involved good running between the wickets. Together they took Town to 200 after just 39 overs. In 41st over Aggarwal passed his second 100 of the season with a crunching cover drive. Town are getting used to seeing Aggarwal raise his bat quite often this season and long it may continue for rest of the season. Modi departed for 39 trying to up the scoring rate and replacing him was M Patel. M Patel played his usual inside out cover drives and flicks to quickly race to 40. Aggarwal departed to a ball that kept very low and Town lost some wickets as lower order tried to swing from the hips. Town eventually finished on 281/9 after 50 overs.

Looking at the score Town posted one may think it must have been a great pitch for the batting, but it was anything but easy. Pitch that was offering very inconsistent bounce Town batted out of their skin to post a huge total. This was evident when Town seamers Daly and Vadgama had the ball in their hands. H&C batters struggled to get going and runs were hard to come by. After 16 overs they were 35/2 and the prospect of them chasing down the target was all but over. Replacing Daly was Verma who tore through H&C middle order. He bowled with aggression and great control and ended up with match figures of 37/6 in his 10 overs (was unlucky not to get a hattrick when the hattrick ball missed the stumps by a millimetres’). H&C were all out for 163 giving Town win by 118 runs.

Skipper spoke after the game: Today we played like a team with great performance with the bat, bowl and field. What can I say about Aggarwal only Suryakumar Yadav is in better form in world cricket. Verma bowled an excellent spell which was equally worthy of MOM as Aggarwal.

Town will host Watford Town II next week.
